Unlocking Access Trainings

MLPB’s Unlocking Access trainings equip colleagues with best practice, strengths-based approaches to partnering with members to address health-related social needs with legal dimensions. Each module orients workforce members to the relevant law and public policy landscape, common barriers to access that people experience, and scope-of-practice-aligned legal problem-solving strategies that health workforce members can undertake, including engagement with medical certifications. Each training focuses on a domain of health-related social need along with dedicated time for questions and discussion. Learners can expect to gain measurable comfort/confidence in the topics covered as well as knowledge of key resources available to people. The 101-level training series introduces learners to several core topics: SDOH Overview & Spotlight on Structural Competence; Housing Instability 101; Utility Needs 101; Food & Income Insecurity 101; Transportation Needs 101; Interpersonal Violence 101. 201-level trainings dive deeper into complex social need intersections and sub-topics, such as: Immigration Status; Criminal System Involvement; Family Law; Advanced topics in all “101” areas.
