Beliefs and Barriers in the Muslim Community

We will examine how cultural beliefs rooted in Islam have a profound impact on all forms of care and support. We will discuss beliefs and barriers about gender roles, family obligations, preventative health, mental health and traditional and medical cures.
Participants will identify what they and their organizations can do to improve the overall health and well-being of the Muslim community members we are entrusted to serve.
Participants in this training program will be able to:

  • Understand the diversity within the Muslim community globally, nationally and locally.
  • Identify protective factors and challenges that may present themselves when caring for Muslim patients.
  • Use tools and strategies that will assist the provider in offering culturally responsive care.
