Community Health Worker Core Competencies Course

The multi-session Community Health Worker (CHW) Core Competencies Course is designed to build the overall capacity of community health workers, care coordinators, patient navigators, residential counselors, and other frontline workers. The course is fully aligned with the standards set forth by the Massachusetts Board of Certification of CHWs. Topics covered include: professional roles and responsibilities, ethics, effective communication, care coordination and system navigation, individual assessment, cultural responsiveness, outreach methods and strategies, and advocacy. 16 hours of the course focuses on special topics which can include a variety of topics related to behavioral health, chronic conditions, or population specific health. This course can be delivered in-person and/or online. CHI also offers the option for training participants to complete this course through our self-paced online curriculum.

[Please note that CHW core competency training is also offered by the Center for Health Impact and other CHW training provider organizations via a Statewide Investment program administered by the Commonwealth Corporation. CHW core competency training available via this option is open to all CHWs in Massachusetts on a first-come, first served basis, with priority given to CHWs in ACOs and CPs].
